Just trying to go throuh life without looking too stupid; its not working out so well. I am still trying to figure this blog thing out. It feels weird asking people to read my thoughts. Then again, it feels weird going through all this trouble just to post them...

Writer's Block

I would like to apologize for the lack of updating on the blog.
I miss it!
I had a bit of ... writer's block.
It takes a bit of time to type with a splint on a finger.
I decided to take some time off.
So, I thought during the lull that some inspirational and witty thoughts would develope.
Nope.
Nothing.
I went to go see the new Harry Potter - Goblet of Fire movie.
I enjoyed it! I am not a die-hard Harry Potter fan. I haven't even seen the third movie! (anyone have a dvd I can borrow!)
It is interesting to me, the initial resistance to the Potter fad. The use of wizardry and witchcraft in the series brought about a lot of concern. I can't say that I disagree. I was intitially skeptical.
However, after seeing several of the movies, and becomming slightly interested in the story, I have learned a few things about the series and the controversy that surrounds Harry Potter.
I can agree that promoting any kind of witchcraft and black-magic to a younger audience is dangerous. I have not found that to be the case with Harry Potter. There is a definate boundary between good and evil, right and wrong, hero and villian.
The story is set in a fantasy realm where magic (like the Force) surrounds, and affects everything.
The problem I have, is that many make a premature judgement. I am not one to look down on over-caution, but if one is going to make a decision, it is best to do one's homework.
For example, Potter uses magic, Batman uses fear and manipulation (not to mention cool cars and nifty gadgets!). If I were a parent, I would think the more dangerous - not to mention more realistic - threat to my child is the obvious theme of fear and using this to manipulate and overtake an enemy.
I own three of the Batman movies in my DVD collection. I am currently watching the Potter series. No, I don't believe myself to be a hypocrit, just simply doing my homework.

Michael Keaton was the best Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I also agree. I think that, with any form of media, people hear one opinion that sounds right, and stick with it. Take Dan Brown for example. People are saying hes an "Agent of Satan" (and other such names) and yet he admits to it being a ficticious story. People hear that he worships satan and they believe it. On another note, I can get Harry Potter 3 from my cousins later today and bring it to church 2morrow. Also, just want to ask if you've heard about "The Solomon Key" - Dan Brown?

No, I haven't heard of The Solomon Key, is it his new book? Dan Brown is a great example of what I am talking about. If you can get PoA that would be cool, but if not, don't worry about it! Alex, you are awesome! Love ya bro!
